The first burn of a candle is the most important. A good rule is the candle should burn 1 hour for every 1 inch in diameter of the actual candle size. You want to let the candle melt from edge to edge of the container.  If you do not establish a full melt pool on the first burn, your candle will tunnel with each consecutive burn.

A melt pool is is just a description for the melted wax in a burning candle. A full melt pool is when the melted wax fills the entire top layer of the candle.

Tunneling happens when only a small portion of the wax around the wick melts while the candle is burning. Instead of having the entire surface of the wax melt evenly, it will appear as though the flame is burrowing into the candle and creating what resembles a small, vertical tunnel

We want you to get the most out of your candle so we will continue to post tips and and fun ideas here.
